The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students have been a JOY to get to know the past three weeks as I began my transition to Alsup! We have been working on classroom rituals and routines, pre-assessing skills, and diving in to our first music units. All of the K-2 students have been learning and participating joyfully in a musical "workout" including the following activities:
1. SING and SAY- Songs, rhymes and rhythm patterns designed to develop "tuneful" singing voices and distinguish between good singing and speaking voices.
2. DANCE- Whole group creative movement and structured dances designed to show "artful" listening and creativity
3. PLAY- "Beatful" instrument exploration and designed to invoke a steady feeling of the beat in groups of 2s and 3s
4. SONGTALE- A story-song sung to the children as they learn to develop artful listening skills).
Later in the year, we will add BEAT BUDDIES and LISTENING to our workout.
Holiday songs play a big part of primary music making as well as traditional folk song favorites. For Thanksgiving, I enjoyed teaching one of my favorite songs "Turkey, Turkey, Where's Your Hair?" to all of the K-2 students. Below are our Kinder students with their completed turkeys! Thank you for your support and I look forward to Winter with these cuties!
