About Ms. EhlyHello and thanks for taking the time to read more about me! My Masters degree in Music Education as well as three levels of Orff-Schulwerk Certification and DPS ELA Certification have prepared me to create lessons that involve total, active music making incorporating speech, singing, movement, and instrument playing in a creative environment that can be accessed by culturally and linguistically diverse learners. I have a keen interest in teaching with technology and the integration of 21st century skills into my music classroom. I have led whole group movement for up to 120 students at a time and successfully produced and led student dramatic performances at all grade levels.
In my career, I have demonstrated educational leadership at the school, district and state levels. My service on the school Leadership, Scheduling, Character Education, Arts Integration, and Collaborative School Committee teams brought a valuable perspective to some tough decision making processes and allowed me to be an advocate for the arts. I have presented professional development sessions on “Infusing Music Technology into the Orff Classroom” in DPS and at CMEA, the state music educator’s conference. I have been a DPS District Arts Teacher Leader and have presented on a variety of topics for professional development as well as mentored new teachers and pre-service teachers. I believe I can take any music program into the 21st century by fostering the 4 C’s: collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. I also believe I bring wealth of urban teaching experience to the position having been an urban educator for the past 20 years, all in bilingual and Title 1 schools. I currently live in Westminster with my two children, Anna and Heather, and a dog named Falkor. At home I like to play piano and guitar, sing, create art, and compose music in my home studio. In the summer of 2018, I released my first album of ambient synthesizer and piano music. You can find the album here. I also enjoy singing karaoke, hanging out with friends, and listening to music of all kinds, In music, Ms. Sarah Ehly |
The Music Program at Alsup Elementary |
Students at Alsup experience active music making by singing, playing instruments, creating, composing, and learning about history and theory of music. All students learn good vocal production techniques and various Modern Band and classroom instruments. Ms. Ehly teaches using the Orff-Schulwerk methodology as well as other eclectic strategies, such as Kodaly and Music as a Second Language, to access culturally and linguistically diverse learners. Alsup students will present at least one grade level performance per year. Extra-curricular Chorus and Modern Band are offered before school for students in grades 3-5.
